Mud Lake Loop Trail: Mud Lake Loop Trail | Florida Sea Kayak Tours This loop paddle inside Everglades National Park gives you a good taste of some open water, some confined water, and, more important, quiet water. Four miles of this loop is for hand-propelled craft only. There is a price to pay for this solitude, however: one leg of your loop requires a portage between waterways. I recommend this route for canoers only the narrow creeks, downed trees, and the portage make sea kayaking downright troublesome. The following description starts at Coot Bay Pond on Main Park Road. However, if you want to make a shorter loop, paddlers can begin at the end of Bear Lake Road, making it a 4.8-mile adventure. Also be apprised that insects can be troublesome, especially on the Bear Lake Canoe Trail portion of this loop. In all 8 square miles of park land protects a variety of habitat for wildlife, including open fields, forests, marshes, ponds, and sand beaches. Point Pelee is the southernmost tip of mainland Canada, and its southern location, coupled with the moderating influence of Lake Erie, ensure a warmer climate than in almost any other part of Canada. This moderate climate allows many plants and animals that are not normally found in Canada to thrive within the park. The point extends far south into the lake, a natural crossing point for migratory birds flying north or south across Lake Erie. The incredible bird watching brings visitors from all over the world, with over 400, 000 visitors enjoying the park each year. The Appalachian Trail traverses the Appalachian Mountain Range for over 2, 100 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.
